I finished up some books in 2022 so now it's time for new books
Just Finished
Tracks in The Snowy Forest — Qu Bo
This is an alright military adventure novel. I think it stays a little past it's welcome (they take Breast Mountain almost too quickly, and use strategy to take Tiger Mountain about half way through. The third set of bandits drags a bit). On reread I really get why they tend to just focus on Tiger Mountain in adaptations. Anyway, I think this is decent if a little dated/stilted but also there's like 0 chance you're going to find this book in English unless you go out of your way to find it
Rogomelec — Leonor Fini
I would be lying if I said I read this for any other reason than I was trying to get one more book in in 2022 and it's short. It had been on my to-read list for a while because my friend Casey recommended it. I think it was only ok but that's with the above caveat that I hadn't saved it for when I was in the right mood for it. It has a great dreamlike quality and I might want to reread it when I'm more in the mood for that.
Now Reading
What a Strange Paradise — Omar El Akkad
My sister and brother-in-law gave me this for Christmas and I'm immediately liking it. Choice offhand quote from early on:
Years earlier, before he was disappeared, Loud Uncle said only a coward survives the absurd.
Reading Writing Interfaces: From the Digital to the Bookbound — Lori Emerson
I'm reading this, ostensibly for a project, but mostly because I thought it sounded interesting. it had been sitting on my to read list for a few years so I'm taking the excuse. I've only read the introduction so far but I think it's going to be interesting and I've already seen a few names mentioned that I recognize through Game Studies Study Buddies. Thanks Ranged Touch.
The Quiet American — Graham Greene
As part of reading more regularly this year, I want to make sure I always have something lighter I'm reading at any given time. This is (hopefully) going to be the start of me reading a lot more thrillers and spy fiction this year (much like I tried to read more mysteries last year)
