I like the article overall and 100% agree that Perpetual Growth Mentality is killing the Internet and the economy in general, but this bit is almost exactly the opposite of what happened, which was more like:

"We want you to do something about all the harassment and hate speech!" tweet the denizens of Twitter. "Poop emoji," said Twitter's CEO (who was losing shitloads of money, but he just really liked hate speech).

the Tumblr example is also, as far as I know, wrong - they did the porn ban to satisfy Apple, who have those rules at little bit due to ideological & commercial pressure from the credit card companies, and mainly for their own ideological and brand image reasons.
