My long-awaited copy of the Shift Happens books arrived!

This is a very nerdy set of books, and it was pretty expensive, and it was supposed to be very well-made and pretty, and the last couple months of progress updates were mostly about weather delays but most of all having to rethink packaging for shipping so they wouldn't get damaged.

I'll say that effort payed off, the condition it arrived in makes me feel like I'm supposed to say one of those things about how it's as close to perfect as anything in this mortal realm can be, that the goddess herself rarely sees anything so perfect.

These are beautiful books, beyond my expectations, just tactile and visual delights, and full of some gloriously nerdy content.

I don't think that you should be able to drive from the east coast to the west coast. They ought to put some air gaps in there. Get rid of the bridges over the mississipi. If you're going from minneapolis to saint paul and want your fiat to come too you'll need to tear it down and kayak it over bolt by bolt. This will create jobs (car disassembler, car reassember, automotive components fisherman, guy with a hairdrier and lots of spare time) and will teach the youth of today important skills (kayaking, patience, cleaning silt out of an engine block). The amphibious car weirdos will be insufferable.
