Poking around, it seems as though folks have been able to write modern PC drivers for this beast? I have to say, it would be pretty sick to jury-rig things such that one could play the MechWarrior games or Ultrabots on one of these.
the fun thing about steel battalion, apart from the fact that the online lobbies still have a userbase, is that it actually uses everything on this controller. including the washing button lmfao
There's even an exhaust port switch.
I remember people purposefully switching off their exhaust ports to hide their heat signatures from detection - Which comes at the risk of suffocating your pilot if you do so for too long!
There ARE drivers! But sadly, those drivers are unsigned. So you can get it to work if you really want to, but you'll have to disable a number of Windows Safety features that are actually kinda really important.
Surely it wouldn't be going to far to build a cockpit around this controller with a dedicated airgapped desktop machine at its heart, right?
why cant you use it anymore edit: whatever the reason check out https://discord.gg/steelbattalion
OG XBox is a victim of the capacitor plague, I think. I've not gotten around to replacing it, and life is just too complex at the moment.
Someday, though!! And thank you for the link <3
<3 fwiw, if life is not too complex to ship an xbox to california, i can do a console repair for ya on the house. just hmu on discord if you're ever interested :3
I will never ever play this game but I am wordlessly jealous! :D
This reminds me of those crazy Saitek rigs with the flip-up missile buttons. <3
If it makes you feel better, it only really works for one (one and a half, really) games!
But yeah, the level of detail and the special function stuff is really cool to me. Those flip-up missile buttons on the Saitek rigs are awesome, and in the same vein, I love the molly-guard on the Steel Battalion controller! It just has a good tactile feel to it.
It's true: The buttons are more L A R G E than densely packed.
