My first new article since June is my case for the importance and quality of Quake II (1997), in light of its superlative remaster released in August. I've felt that id Software's sequel has been under-recognised in recent years, and hope that its recent update will help restore its tarnished legacy. My argument here is based on three aspects of the game - its quality level design, dynamic Strogg enemies, and the top-tier audio. All of these have been added to or improved in the 2023 version.

Besides the text version, you can also hear an audio version (9m 57s) which is episode #98 of my podcast. You might also be interested in my Quake II weapons tierlist. For more of my writing, see my homepage and the indie games site Entertainium.

Test Of Time: Withstood!

It is not lost on me that, in being remastered, Quake II has effectively become Stroggified in its own right.
