so apparently there's a trend on various social media where people are blocking users with greek/roman statuary in their avatars/pfps/whatever on sight, and while I think this is unfair to those of us who like the imagery of broken or altered classical pieces, I don't blame them because there's no shortage of fascists out there who use it as a kind of signaling
so I'm gonna have to get rid of old Marcus over there, looks like, and that's frustrating as hell because not only do I actually look a lot like this (beard, baggy eyes, tired as fuck) but I like the symbolism of a shattered, half-missing stoic
time to get looking for a replacement, I guess
[edit] for those running into this later, after I replaced it, my previous avatar/pfp was a crop of this photo of a fragment of a bronze portrait of Marcus Aurelius
On a whim, I did an image search for "exhausted philosopher" and the result was simply too delightful not to share. Even the file name is a wonderful invitation to be misinterpreted. The social media experience, indeed.
