even if you are familiar with things like the (long, exhausted sigh) "space cadet keyboard," this thread will still knock you right back in your seat. i've seen more keyboards than most living creatures can imagine and i still gasped with each jpeg
when my wife still worked at one of our local tv stations, a mutual friend invited me to come down and go into the control room on an unbusy night and, sitting at one of the stations, forlorn, was this beast. It has a steel box underneath it that is at least microatx sized. This is the thing that at some point at the past literally put the "chyron" (you know, the text at the bottom on the news. Not the ticker, the bigger thing) on the broadcast. It had since been replaced with more modern graphics packages where the chyrons (or "supers") were prefilled by the reporters or producers and cued directly by the director instead of having a separate chyron operator.
Anyway I found one cheap on eBay and it's all mine now baybee. It doesn't have a standard plug or character set, so it needs a custom keyboard controller. My plan is to put a whole desktop in it at some point, and maybe a kvm switch.
