Would closed source software not be worse, you can go scan at least some of the code with open source software

I had to use FUSE for a class (this was 10 years ago, IDK if it changed), and in one file that was almost 10k lines long, the ONE comment in the entire thing was:
// Oh fuck this is ugly

i don't know what's worse, that or incomplete and outdated documentation that gets your hopes up. it breaks my heart when i see that someone wanted to put in the effort to have good docs, but then stopped at some point
