i read somewhere that maybe nostalgia is what mentally makes us want to stay alive. like it makes us feel our life so far has been pretty okay. i think there is some truth to that, for example i'm nostalgic for 2020 quarantine when i was stuck in a room with zero contact and kept getting more dysfunctional and depressed, which is nonsensical from a rational perspective.
