Teh one thing I discovered aboot tags is that u can copy-paste commas into themf and it won't move to another tag, meowf. Idk if bug or featur
Tags with commas seem to function just fine (example of one of my tag-essays here), so I think commas moving to a new tag is just a holdover from sites like Tumblr (which use the same behavior), rather than stemming from any sort of concerns with how tags work from a technical standpoint. (I checked and search also seems to turn up tags with commas, and links to them correctly, which supports this assumption)
of course you are the other person who used a colon as a tag
