unemployed, yet burnt out. it cost more money to register the copyright for my book to get amazon to take down an illegal version of it than i made selling it. tried for a while to get patreon to be something but unfortunately $200 a month around here is only like 10% of a month's rent and is also about the same amount i pay for one or two sessions of therapy because my insurance doesn't cover my therapist. i'm really lucky my sister is nice and has a tech job so combined we're fine on money but it's still weighing on me that i'm effectively so useless

I can't really offer any adivice, I am in a similar spot where I am comfortable financially but I haven't done anything and I don't even know how I could enter the job market once my study are over, since I have been fired or quitted most of my jobs.
Also, hold on, you wrote a book?!

You're not useless, Beth. Have you tried a micro-task platform like Amazon MTurk or ClickWorker? You won't make a tonne of money, but can make a few dollars a day, and this can add up. Once Chohost allows us to monetize our content or leave tips, that could help, too. Hang in there, man. You're a funny, sweet person, and life can be tough at times. Go easy on yourself. No one is useless.
I have not tried those platforms but maybe I'll look into them. Ironically I actually used to write tasks for a similar Google-internal platform at my old job so I do know a lot about them lol.
