there's a lot of cases of character's stated traits not matching their behavior, such as the Swiss man Victor Frankenstein having a strangely thorough knowledge of British history and a jingoistic appreciation of the British empire.

There's also a ton of absurd contrivances to further the plot, like the time the ocean currents just happen to wash Victor ashore at a village where, last night, his monster--in an identical boat!--murdered his friend and traveling companion, which makes the villagers arrest Victor for the murder.

Honestly, in some ways it reminds of deeply imaginative fan fiction with middling execution. The constant comparisons of the monster to Adam are extremely unsubtle and it's definitely trying to make a grand statement about God and Man but the characters and setting kind of let that aspect down.
