(making a video essay about a very specific speedrunning exploit in a single game on the NES but I have to stretch it out to 20 minutes so the youtube algorithm catches it) speedrunning is an activity enjoyed by many people who play video games. The objective is to complete a video game as fast as possible. Not everyone speedruns games, but for those that do, speedrunning is a very enjoyable thing. Occasionally, speedrunners can find exploits in a video game's coding to be even faster. Now, many of us have played a game on the NES. That stands for "Nintendo Entertainment System." Some of us, especially hardcore fans of NES games, like Zelda, may have tried to play them quickly before.

And now, let's get back to the video.

We're here to talk about the "Horribly Nude Toad" any% skip for Super Mario 2, but did you know the game wasn't originally a Mario title at all? Originally known as Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic, Nintendo d

This skip was invented by <butchers Japanese name> sorry if I got that wrong despite having written this script that includes the name and having ample opportunity to try practicing it before I hit record

But first we need to talk about parallel universes.

Oh no, is YouTube driving the creation of long videos? I’m a dad, I don’t have twenty minutes, I want to learn something neat in five minutes thirty seven seconds. I’ll watch four of those before clicking one twenty-minute video. More short form please!

That has become my big pet peeve in (for lack of a better term) amateur media in general. For example, nothing says "contribute to my Patreon" like "my podcast covers the news from a progressive perspective, but I can't be bothered to look up how to pronounce any non-European name, but I am going to try to mine my disinterest in other cultures for humor"...

The "I don't know how to pronounce this lol!!" thing is such a nothing joke. It bothers me so much whenever it shows up, you know the person doing it wrote their Funny Off-Script Moment into their script or otherwise planned it. It pretends to be authentic or spontaneous but it is so blatantly manufactured and utterly void of any value. I hate it :)
