I think the real predictor here would be name and age. I think trans people generally tend to pick names that are considered cool at the time they choose the name, which means they'll tend to have similar names to babies who are being named around the same time. So a thirty year old named "Eli" is more likely to be trans because that name peaked in popularity in the mid 2010s

maybe instead of age as the 2nd variable, year of naming might make more sense. because i think you would need some cis entries so that you have a good spread of sample data, and you can figure out you're trans at any age - i didn't solve that puzzle until I was like 34, but I know plenty of people who knew in high school, or there's even a couple of folks figuring this stuff out at 40+ or 50+

If someone were to do this for real (which they obviously shouldn't) I think you'd get more accurate results if you also input the birth year of that person, since in my experience I think trans people have a tendency to pick names that weren't as popular when they were born (I didn't know a single Clara growing up, for example, but a lot of people in my grade had my deadname as their first name)

good point yeah. i was thinking recently that based on my experience, trans people often go with names that are popular when they chose a name, rather than names that were popular back when they were born, which leads to a lot of trans boomers born in the 60s with names popular in the 80s like Heather, or a lot of modern trans zoomers probably have names that are recently popular baby names like Olivia or Ada or Ava or Liam or Sophia

Funnily, my middle name is basically just a gender flip of my deadname's middle name, not in a literal sense but rather swapping my Pop-pop's name for my Nana Bridie's name (Bridget, which totally didn't originally enter the running because Bridget's GGST theme is what broke my egg, nope, definitely not). Not a lot of Bridgets my age, though, at least not around here

I'm not certain what percentage of us that holds for, but it would definitely fail for some of us. Like, for instance, I picked Amy because (a) I liked it, (b) it's short, and (c) it was a common name in the year I was born, about as common as my deadname. But I also picked Catherine for a middle name (unrelated to the videogame, which I have never played), and anecdotally I sure seem to have met several people with variations on Catherine.

I did consider Miranda and Madison, though, for a little while (and I have a friend who went with Miranda), and I'm going to bet those would hew closer to this theory.
