IMO it looks like calcite or a similar calcium carbonate. I'm not an expert tho!!
if you could do the following...let me attempt to describe what I would like you to do: under a strong single light source, like a table lamp, turn the rock slowly about in your hands, trying to illuminate the rock from every possible angle.
if you do this, are there any angles where it seems like the rock reflects back much more light than usual? where it lights up just for a moment as you turn it? ~Chara
Sorry for the late reply. The rock is currently in a little tin, BUT that tin was knocked over a while ago to somewhere hard to reach. I could get it out, but it will be a pain and I don't want to right now sorry >.<
aw okay! I was curious anyway. turning the rock around in the light like that is how you can determine if the material has "cleavage planes" without actually having to break anything. ~Chara
