I know this because I worked at a place where someone got the award and their linkedin was like "thanks to everyone who nominated me" which I assume includes former corporate employers with specific connections

On Tuesday Javice, 31, was charged by the justice department with “falsely and dramatically inflating the number of customers of her company” in order to get JPMorgan Chase to buy it. According to the lawsuit, Frank only had about 300,000 clients and fabricated data to show a larger customer base. She enlisted a data scientist to make up a few million customers, basically, and JPMorgan, which has about 240,000 employees and pays its CEO $34.5m for his expertise, didn’t seem to spot this in its due diligence.

i'm.... really not convinced this isn't a victimless crime. bankers are just high-stakes gamblers with false legitimacy and they should eat the consequences of their bad bets and not leverage the carceral system to salvage their schoolboy-fragile pride

yeah no it's the same story as with the Theranos lady (see Sophie from mars' excellent video about that story). when you're this rich you can steal regular peoples money, lie to them through your teeth, tell them your pill of sugar and crushed up dead ants will cure their cancer, all you like and face no consequence: but defraud even richer people a little bit as a treat? it's fucking over for you, pal
