Progress Quest is in a similar vein: entirely non-interactive progress bars. It bills itself as a "zero-player game."
til that for some games loading times are tied to frame rate. this becomes an issue if you're running on some weird Linux thing where if you alt-tab out of a game the render thread gets stalled because the compositor suspends the surface.
