big shoutout to the the ceaseless barrage of "chosen one" stories in early aught young adult media for instilling a warped and self-destructive perspective of what my role is in solving problems bigger than myself.

because our frame of reference is often just that of one person, one person narratives tend to be the "stickiest" ones. they're the easiest to understand, write, talk about and remember.

at the extreme, this leads to heroic (read: fake) narratives and great man history. there's different abstraction sizes but after small-ish group sizes people stop recognizing the abstractions as groups and start anthropomorphizing them again... it's a real issue because it seems like a limitation of narratives as a medium, and we kind of rely on it for almost everything.
