it's linux-based and went from Palm to HP when HP bought Palm; HP made an open source version, and then sold the closed source code to LG; then Qualcomm bought the relevant patents from HP. now LG licenses the patents from Qualcomm and uses it for smart tvs and fridges and projectors even though it started as a smartphone OS
