Related to this conversation I've noticed something about the way people talk about media consumption, a bizarre mix of moralizing and the projection, where if you like a piece of media then it is Objectively Enjoyable and if you don't like it then it's Objectively Nonenjoyable, which means that if a piece of Nonenjoyable Media has anything problematic about it, well clearly nobody can be enjoying it for its own merits so anyone who enjoys it must be doing so in order to be deliberately evil

i was gonna go look at the linked conversation but i guess i already blocked the person saying it lol. but anyway yeah i think for some people media consumption has taken on a moral, almost religious role in their life and seld-identity

I guess the nuanced take is that everyone has a bunch of sliding scales they use to evaluate media, and the way they prioritize those scales doesn't say NOTHING about a person, but it's not as simple as just making whether someone likes Steven Universe more than South Park into the new horoscopes
