Oddly enough I'm decent enough in conversational French, and the recording quality and archival fidelity's good enough I can grok most of the conversation and at least the basic context. I don't know if in the recording the gentlewoman speaker's voice is distorted at all but her spoken Quebecois accent is very strange, like it's layered over another present in practice; but she's still very good at speaking it as a second language or a first with some roughness to it.
Again, it may simply be a natural tonal or frequency shift in the recording due to its age and the original transmission and pickup, and nothing more odd than that. I certainly have never heard each and every person who speaks French say something to me in the language themselves, more that I picked up an odd shift in her vocal tone and timbre I couldn't pick out the source of, if her original speaking voice was the source, which it might as likely not be.

I made a bit of a goof, then; I'm sorry about not grokking the context at first. I will say I'm impressed with the novelty and neatness of your wee bit of technological concoction, as both a vintage analog audio fan and a hobbyist who works with foley design and sound effects on my computer at home.
So the custom mic was made from the receiver handle and acoustic receiver and projector itself, separate from the rest of the phone in your build? I'd be fascinated to hear tell of your method and design in building it if you're meaning to do a longer writeup and description in a future post on Cohost.
