I don't know if anyone's talked about this before, but you can set image-rendering: pixelated; which will tell the browser not to blur everything to shit without having to upscale the image before uploading

edit: fuck chrome, apparently when I specify image-rendering: crisp-edges; as a fallback it throws a fit and ignores both


edit2: quick guide since this is getting kinda popular:

  1. upload the images you want to have in your post, post as draft

  2. open the draft, right click copy the url, you can remove the image now

  3. this will make the image show up at max width <img src="the url you copied here" style="image-rendering: pixelated; width: 100%; display: block;">

  4. If you want to put them in a grid like I did: wrap it in <div style="display: grid; grid-template-columns: 1fr 1fr; gap: 1em"> and </div>, add more 1frs for more columns
