like they had sun dials and stuff, but then they started making the funny Mechanical clocks, and did they like ,, set the prototype clock going and then checked the clock 24 hours later when the sun returned to the exact same spot in the sky, and if the clock was off they tweaked the seconds to be a lil faster or slower and tried again
