i cannot comprehend how i liked this thing as a kid, because you cannot play NES games on it. ignore the D-pad, that's its own thing - look at the angle of the buttons. how did I play mario on this? if you hold it as intended it is impossible to jump while running. did i fucking hold it at 45 degrees the whole time i was using it?? what in the fuck was nintendo thinking licensing this thing

For the longest time I assumed every single one I had encountered was broken, until I found out that no, they're just like that.
Maybe you played Mario by using Turbo A and Normal B? Not ideal but certainly possible
maybe you don't like it, but I rate this controller as three thumbs up 👍👍👍
My theory is that the NES max was designed as a "get rich quick with future tech" scheme by a nonhuman time traveler who had seen what controllers look like in the future but didn't understand the "why" and only dimly remembered the "what" of the designs.
