it's weird to me that the default style for in-game "photos" of people has become that mediocre semi realistic photoshop painting style. It's especially off-putting when a game is mostly going for realism but humans inexplicably kind look like they're out of a bland comic book. Like, either go hard into a strong, cohesive art style for the whole game, or get over your fear of FMV aesthetic and dress somebody up to take a real picture
i feel like that's the style non-creative people think "looks good" and as a result it's become effectively the default for image generation AI. it's a style that appeals to common cultural biases that conflate stylized "realism" with good/"professional" art
