  1. i thought "fuck it, why not" when the game asked if i wanted to try "Survival Mode". having tried it, it feels very half-baked and bolted on. adding survival mechanics to a game that inherently isn't about survival just doesn't work very well. instead of making your own way in the wilderness, you just take all the fish and produce from random barrels in every town

  2. after having played breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom, i really miss the fantastic, intuitive, and satisfying cooking systems in those games. skyrim's cooking system is awful. it's just a really really long menu, and a lot of things that seem like ingredients actually can't be used that way at all. not to mention that a lot of the recipes you CAN make sound fuckin terrible. "Apple Cabbage Stew"? the fuck is that, Todd

  3. the fishing minigame is probably the most basic i've ever seen in a game, tied with minecraft. i am however extremely entertained that there's a fish called the "Pogfish"

fr, there were mods in 2016 for "survival skyrim" that were leagues better and more interesting than what they officially released.......... but they have the mod Jank about them where you can feel how it's just not perfectly integrated thematically, the prose is not written the same way, etc. theres a perfect wilderness survival game in there, somewhere
