bonus lore: "gun" - the weapon - is short for the girl's name Gunhilda. There was a specific cannon that someone named Gunhilda. It's possible that whoever picked the name was aware of its literal meaning, but as etymonline notes, many large weapons have been affectionately named after many women. Therefore, it's perfectly plausible that guns could have been just as well megs or tiffs.
