a big part of this on platforms like twitter is probably that posts that elicit outrage get a lot of engagement and shares. it's not that good posts on the topic don't exist, but that most people won't see them.

anyway, it's generally good to do a bit of research and not take everything you see in viral posts at face value. some general principles, among others:

  • despair is easy to fall into but helps no one
  • make sure money you're donating is going to the right people to be used for the right things
  • be skeptical of anyone who claims to be literally the only voice you can trust on a subject
  • take accusations against members of groups that people love to hate with a huge grain of salt. there are a ton of inflated allegations that get spread about queer and neurodivergent creators
