so the hospital I work at, like all hospitals, has a non-Euclidean eldritch floor plan where things are connected that shouldn't be and unconnected that should be and no floor is actually on the same level as itself. ("But Cliff, didn't you say it's this little one-horse rural hospital?" Yes. It is the size of a single modest office building and still like this. Hospitals, man.)

so the officially sanctioned way to get from the first floor to the other first floor is to go north, upstairs, west, south, and then downstairs. the unofficial way is a maintenance tunnel that takes you directly there but has a lot of signs that say MAINTENANCE STAFF ONLY NO ENTRY!!! but it's never locked and nobody ever hassles me for using it. so obviously this is the way I always go.

today I went into the tunnel and discovered that it was still unlocked but they had taken all the lights out. so I can still go my easy way... as long as I'm comfortable doing it by cellphone light while under immediate threat of encountering Silent Hill monsters.

those bastards. this is so much worse than just locking me out.

still not going to walk up and down the entire building to travel 100 feet though so I'll just have to take my chances

which is a building that truly makes no sense. Half of it has numbered floors and half of it have letter floors, which are both offset uphill from from the numbered floors in a way where the numbered floors go into the negative underground, and also a different height so one of the letter floors just doesn't have any way to go into the other half unless you go up or down a floor and then take a short flight of stairs making up for the offset.

i don't think it was true but there was a story that it was built starting from opposite sides by two brothers who hated each other and never talked, and the whole thing was an accident.

i'm not convinced it wasn't part of the Oldest House from Control
