its not talked about enough how most poetry journals don't take work that's been published on e.g. a blog, and thus disincentivize the sharing of poetry

i'm routinely angry about this all the damn time because i want to be able to do stuff like share things and get feedback and maybe like, get followers or something, but 90% of poetry journals will NOT let you have posted something even on your personal blog that five people look at

i don't see it being talked about much though so i'm glad to see it here

it has been A Minute since i've done this but this used to irritate the shit out of me. There were a couple (very loose, very 'community vibe') journals that would accept prepublished work if it was on a personal blog, but outside of that it was just a pain in the ass.

I had this big spreadsheet where I separated out "good to post on blog" and "save for journals" poems, and sometimes a third column of "recitals ok", since some journals were also weird about recited stuff if it was recorded.

Just... bad. Not a good system for healthy development of writing talent, frankly!!
