Black has played positionally and found themselves in a pleasant scenario-- and visually Nc2 looks killer! I did Nc2 in the game and got away with it, but it was an objectively bad move-- why?

Much less risky Qb5 move available that also does more to build towards checkmate? Been a while since I played chess. Just looks like there's no really desirable objective in the Nc2 move, it offers a messy trade but doesn't build that positional advantage up any.
I like trying these puzzles even though I'm really awful at actually playing chess and can barely see more than one move ahead. I can see that Nc2 forks the bishop and the rook, but I think that White can play Rc1? Then if Black goes for the bishop or the rook, White can play Rxc8 to take Black's rook and check the king, then can slide their rook over to a8 if Black does Kd8, and now they're pinning Black's other bishop to their other rook? I think? Maybe?
Right on!-- Rc1 flips the advantage entirely to white, with the combination you describe if I try to take anyway.
nice! and I just saw your solution post too. It took me a good 10-15 minutes to spot Rc1. I would not have survived this game
