TL;DR: I WAS LIKE BOY THAT WOULD BE A CUTE NAME FOR MY CHARACTER AND THEN I STOLE IT FROM HIM

I love when I get this question, there’s a lot that goes into it! I don’t always create characters the same way, some of them start with a name, like Declan and some I design and then name. When I had finished writing my description of Bile I had to come up with a name and I thought, “hmm he’s so cute, he needs a gross name.” I loved and still love the sort of dissonance in that.

I played around with a few things (I think barf and meat were top contenders) but Bile was the one that really seemed best. Short, simple, and fairly unique. After I named him I started developing lore for him, not too actively, just whenever I thought of something new about him. I really like the concept of Humorism, the medieval medical theory that 4 chemical systems regulate human health/behaviour/emotions and since his name was already Bile I figured he could represent Yellow Bile. As you might guess he has three family members that represent the other humours!

And why /I'm/ called Bile is that I use him as my main mascot character. I don't really have a true fursona (me but furry) so the characters that I use most, Bile, Declan (the grey cat) and Pantheon (the pizza dragon) are kind of my fursonas.
