I love the cover of this and hope it works out for you! I totally get the draw of having a planner where you can insert pages into sections. Alas, I've a burning hatred of ringbinders since childhood for the reasons you mention here (although to be fair I'm probably less careful), so inserts/envelopes are how I've dealt in the past with it. That and starting off relatively hefty with blank heavy-duty dotted books. I bought next year's mossery planner after you had been talking about them on the two streams (the new horizontal week + blank page works for me more than the current set up), so it'll be the first time I've really had a pre-printed schedule one(!) What's Jan if not for experimenting
Truly. 😄 I hope the Mossery book works out, I really do love their stuff. If this year goes badly I could see myself swapping back despite the layout changes and shipping fees, even. Who knows.
I also run into thickness issues with planners, I use a Mossery planner and have 1 dotted twinbook for yearly planning/notes/things like that and then use the half-year twinbooks. It's kind of fun to switch over the planner twinbook in the middle of the year and the twinbook that's a dotted notebook I use all year helps me keep stuff organized (I have monthly calendars so I can write down appointments for later months, etc). You could probably do something similar with the binder set-up and see if only having half the year is too annoying. (Which is kind of where you're at now with the later month weekly pages taken out, but I've found intentionally splitting the year up is fun and good for my brain.)
Yeah, this year will be an interesting test of that. Having the monthly calendars all up front is good enough for me to mark release dates and appointments and birthdays and all that, so swapping out half the year's weekly pages might actually feel great? I guess we'll see!
Based on the planner stream you did a couple weeks ago I picked up the MochiThings 2023 Prism weekly diary. I was thinking I would have to keep it set aside until next year but the weekly pages actually start November of 2022! So I get to use it now instead of having to wait, which is good for momentum.
Never used a pre-printed planner like this, so I am excited. I have tried to use bullet journals but I fall off after a month or two, I think because the list of things I intended to do but never actually did that I had to copy to the next month was discouraging. And it's a lot of busy work, writing up the template.
FWIW the thing you mentioned about the lists is exactly why I'm careful about how/when/where I list tasks now. It's a factor I try and stay on top of with my therapist even. I worry I'll forget things if I don't write them somewhere, so I started putting my more big-picture lists somewhere outside of my day-to-day planning (like Notion), so my weekly lists are more urgent things that have time limits.
I do hope the pre-printed planner works out for you. I've never made an honest attempt at bujo because I just know I would get overwhelmed and put off setup like you mentioned and then not have anywhere to write things and it would all just snowball. Pre-printed is a bit less fun, but even if I don't make the time to decorate the layout for the upcoming week the basics are all still there for me so it's not a disaster if I just don't have the headspace. Bujo just... isn't right for everyone, and that's okay. 😅
I hope it works out for you! It looks nice. At least, like you say, if parts of it don't work you can just switch them out.
