Google is better at killing projects than coming up with decent ones to begin with. They're literally Yahoo!ing themselves in real time.
This sort of thing is unconscionable and should be illegal. If you bought the hardware, you should have a perpetual right to use that hardware as you see fit. Including a time bomb in an official unlocking tool is just petty and adds yet another reason to distrust Google.
The fact that this wasn't just a default will always be wild to me.
