last weekend was the traditional cross-river trip into even-more-rural-and-wackjob illinois than usual. i was reminded of this fact by being blasted with an anti-abortionist dedication as soon as i walked to check out the back of the mary monument, so that was a sobering moment.
of note regarding the bluffs is that they were the former location of the Piasa mural, what was once the largest native american painting found in north america. of course, it was subsequently destroyed in the 1870s for the limestone it was painted on, and the rest stop is now a monument to the lovely and hard-working founders of the local community.
it's gorgeous country at least, and fried chicken tastes better served out of a tiny school cafeteria.
afaik i shot the roll all on program mode because i'm still a bit terrified to experiment further, but it was a lot of fun and i'm already at work on the next one!
