started playing this last night and got a few hours in. i am really liking it so far. it takes a lot of cues from old school survival horror, with a big emphasis on item management and puzzles. it's not really scary, at least not yet...i'd call it more a lovecraftian thriller than horror. it doesn't use tank controls, but does employ fixed camera angles in an interesting way: the right shoulder button is dedicated to switching between the initial angle and a second one. that gives you a lot more freedom in combat and when trying to explore while still feeling like a resident evil or silent hill.
combat is very easy. you get unlimited low quality ammo, but you can also craft higher quality stuff from scraps you find while exploring. you can dodge enemy attacks and throw things as distractions. it's still a nice reprieve from just running around and solving puzzles, however short a round of combat might be.
the voice acting is really impressive. it's nothing, like, absolutely amazing, but it feels very natural in its delivery, even if occasionally the actual dialogue seems a bit awkward. it's nothing that takes you out of the scene.
if you're a fan of adventure games or survival horror, i say give broken pieces a try. i like how it respects the conventions of those genres while also speeding up gameplay and making it more flexible for folks that might find those same conventions annoying.
