Remembering one of my favourite all-time bugs again: “can’t print on Tuesdays”

boredzo
@boredzo

Takes a bit of work since Launchpad doesn't show days of the week, and sometimes you need to assume somebody's a few hours ahead of or behind the nearest Tuesday in Launchpad's timezone, but it's worth it.

Original bug: Filed 2008-08-05… a Tuesday.

On 2008-08-08 (Friday) someone says:

Open office started printing today! I don't know why. perhaps its because of a recent update. I don't know what update did this. I do know that currently the following updates are waiting to load.

Several other comments that Friday to the effect of “it's started working again for me too!”

Then someone says on 2008-08-12 (a Tuesday):

Open Office stopped printing today. The last update downloaded was comm data ?

Launchpad reports this as the next day but it might've still been Tuesday locally for the commenter:

ARRGGGG!!! It broke again for me too!!!

2008-08-18 (Monday):

Open Office began printing again before I had updated. So I am not convinced updates cause the change. I just updated and still print. I am happy its working.

Same commenter, one day later (Tuesday):

I stand corrected, after a boot cycle Open Office failed to print.

2009-01-01 (Thursday):

Solution: Deinstallation of ALL Openoffice-applications and deleting of ALL traces of Openoffice from the system. Then re-install OOo-applications.

Same commenter, 2009-01-13 (Tuesday):

That was a pretty short relief. After the last "update" of cups nothing works. Half a page in "Writer" resulted in numerous pages with all kinds of "codes". After a restart no printing is possible from Openoffice-Writer. Printing from all other applications is fine.

Then we catch up to the comment Misty linked to above, where the problem is identified.
