When I go to my "bookmarked tags" feed I don't see reposts with one of my bookmarked tags added if it wasn't originally present in the thing that is reposted.
It actually annoys me because I often want to share something I find neat with the community that I mostly follow through bookmarked tags and it seems it doesn't show up there. I could add a link to the post I want to show in a message instead but then the OP diesn't see the "share" and it feels scummy.
IDK if it's something in my settings or if it's how it works for everyone.
If that's how it's intended to work I don't even see the purpose of being able to add tags in reposts

I think that is precisely what is meant by unpopular design decisions meant to limit harassment

I had no idea there were "global tags" as opposed to other kinds of tags, I thought they were all the same...

they are all the same. a “global tag” is just one that has global in the name, which was a spontaneous self-organization of people manually tagging posts as “I think this is the sort of content you want to see if you’re just looking to see some good posts about Whatever” like a twitter timeline.

Apparently the person who kicked off the trend regrets it but I think they’re being too hard on themselves.

you are looking at the system as it now stands after a few revisions attempting to solve the harassment thing as much as possible on a technical level, but staff is clearly still frustrated about the existence of the global tags which were the reason they felt they had to add these awkward compromises to begin with.
