its a marketing buzzword that usually means ur gonna pay more for less just because its old and its part of a mindset that festishizes the past as a Better Time When Products Were Better even when said product is objectively worse in near every way. i feel similarly about the term retro. nostalgia as commodity
really im just mad that people are buying up multiple tascam 4 track recorders just to run stems from their daw to them before piping them back into the daw. just use a plugin or get a distortastudio or something. there arent a lot of tascams out there and it annoys me when people only use them as an effect instead of as the 4 track recorders they are. like if you wanna pipe to tape and back just get a cheap walkman. it'll cost way less and give you a more tapey sound anyways
