some combat dolls are to be seen. a well-trained blade is quite the deterrent.
witches that do not need the deterrent factor (those that look harmless, those that look formidable) may instead opt for the long-distance devotion of a sniper-type combat doll.
sniper combat dolls are often painfully shy, temperamentally unable to serve as blades. they are a way to recycle material in which such traits survived the kiln. they best relate to their witch and her enemies with the reassuring separation of a scope and hundreds of meters.
one does not see a sniper combat doll, but may infer its presence by the violence with which skulls are pierced or separated from bodies, when one raises a hand against its witch.
the doll may be anywhere. one won't find it. they are nervous creatures, and very good at hiding. in fact, they are so notoriously nervous that they are difficult to retrieve from the area of operations when a witch departs.
experienced witches will condition theirs specifically for this scenario. knowing that the doll watches their every move in magnified detail from afar, knowing that the doll can hear them over the command link, they will speak to the doll, praising it, teasing it, expecting no response but anticipating its secret blushes and suppressed moans, and if they are any witch at all, the conditioning will slowly kick in, and when the witch tells them to come, the doll does so, hard enough to blank out.

then, when it falls out of whatever perch it found, the witch may simply listen for the thump.
if a witch and their sniper combat doll must share a transport to or from the area of operations, it is quite common for the doll to be terrified of the object of its affections, when so confronted at short range.
this is a splendid opportunity to reinforce its conditioning.
