oh yeah! we bought an old gameboy recently (we must be your Dad's age...)
we played Super Mario Land last month, for the first time since that was one we could never afford in the day. we completed it on our first ever playthrough, with no game overs. we were very pleased with ourselves. this would have been a lot harder when we were kids, we probably would have had to actually engage with the memorization aspect of it...
it's a good game, surprisingly so given the capabilities of the system. we hope you are able to find a copy.
its by far my favorite mario game. no platformer i tried up until celeste came close to how just pure fun it was. spent many many hours playing it as a kid
we grew up with that older 8-bit generation of memorization-heavy gameplay, and yeah, no game since really feels the same to us because modern games don't ask us to engage with the details of the world in the same way.
