Lost in the aether

It's been a very informative read with all manner of facts, insights on "Americanizations", and all from a more academic approach. One of those early Western works which said "Godzilla is important" when many critics had long dismissed it all. (Kalat would later provide feature commentary on a couple of the Criterion releases.)

The second edition actually culls a lot of text from the '97 edition. Back then so many of these films weren't widely accessible or even had Western releases and thus very detailed write-ups of all the plotlines had to be included. Very gratifying to see access and interest advance to such a degree over that decade. (And a hearty reminder for me to not take the archival splendor of modern internet for granted.)
