never fails to get a smile. Sure there string-bean Bashir, you sure walloped that grizzled Klingon warrior with your lil' what-for smack on the back, now he's out cold lmao. Such a quaint holdover.

I guess in a way it's kinda like the idle unit walking-in-place animation in an RPG? That signifies the idea of movement during an altercation, and the whole dual fist punch kinda signifies the idea of a fighting maneuver (stage play!) even if it would actually amount to nothing in a real brawl.

It's a vague memory, but I think that someone originally came up with it to signify some future/alien way of fighting, which I find fairly clever, especially in the absence of (entirely reasonable) regulations saying that shows that kids watch shouldn't have easily-reproducible antisocial behavior in them...
