It must be remembered that it's impossible to lose a time-active battle by dint of having too few troops (simply double any survivors' timelines back on themselves, although this is stretching the Homeworld's Protocols to breaking-point and is usually only done in a temporary basis) or by dint of insufficient pre-planning (since it's possible to pre-arrange tactics in local time). It's not even possible to lose a battle solely by dint of having lost it, as it can generally be fought again. It is, however, possible to have lost a battle — and for it to remain lost — if it remains unrecognized that a victory has in fact been achieved.

I cannot for the life of me remember whose idea this was, but someone proposed a game called 'time wizards' where basically you play a normal game of Magic: the Gathering, but a machine shuffles your decks for you. After the game, the same machine perfectly recreates that shuffle, and you play the duel again. Same players, same cards, same order, but now you get to make all decisions with the benefit of vague future knowledge.
