Seeing so many people making old games that run on old hardware is inspiring. I keep thinking back to how I'd want to try it myself but also I was inspired by things like Shovel Knight which knew how to stretch the limitations with modern computing while still feeling old. Some of the goal-oriented NPC behavior work I'm currently attempting to get right in Chronicles would be just about impossible at Tandy 1000 CPU speeds.
I'll probably eat those words though, there's a ton of complex work being done to eek out some amazing things from old chips. That was always kind of the pull of retrogamedev. I would want to program something that is using the faster speeds for meaningful additions instead of wasting it all on modern computing bloat.
