I learned from other posts here that you can banish ghosts by carving memorials for them so my 17 missing dwarves have finally been laid to rest.
In other news the queen's husband was hauling some stone right as I accidentally flooded the cave he was in. Luckily, the Search and Rescue Team was able to drain the cave with a pump and recover all the sick artifacts he was wearing.
I've backed away from the end game material mining to try and stabilize the fort some more, particularly after some poisonous dust blown by a beast caused half the military force (20+ dwarves) to succumb and drop like flies after the battle.
Another big issue I've only just now realized is everybody in the fortress is wearing the clothes they came in on and I've never prioritized weaving new clothes. Never thought I'd have a fortress long enough for this to be an issue.
I've mobilized an ETF, Emergency Tailor Force, to address the threadbare sock disaster.
