I sometimes like working on never-to-be-finished video game projects

Right now I'm making a game called Chronicles.

Wanna make a game? Here is a list of great C++ libraries to use.

I maintain a Letterboxd in much the way that I assume people maintain bonsai trees.

Something I've been putting off for a while. Turns in the game are resolved in a single frame and then the action tokens set up a timeline of animations during execution which play at specific frame counts so that you can watch the turn play out.

This was made to work with actor positions, some of the movement animations, syncing up the camera movement, the palette flashing, all had to be put onto a timeline to deterministically resolve at a given frame.

Now I have a system to add arbitrary rendering to this. Projectile abilities can show a circle flying to the target (left gif), damage numbers can come up as a response to taking damage (right gif), etc, etc. This is the final piece of the puzzle for figuring out what is happening during combat execution :host-joy:

It's not at all in a state conducive to a user having just free roam but the amount of guiding I had to do was minimal. It's the first time I've ever had someone try and figure out how it works cold.

I'd say it was very positive, the main feedback being that it needs tooltips and, yes, definitely. The idea that it's just some tooltips away from being completely playable is very exciting.

And he did get a few of those great aha moments that I'm going for.

Getting excited :host-joy:

I have felt the pull of the new Zelda game and it has led me places. I should start by saying that I have overall unfavorable memories of BotW. I recall playing it for 40+ hours, beating it, really liking climbing on stuff and gliding around and finding new horses and chopping trees, and disliking just about everything else.
