Game development is weird. I've been struggling with an issue with a video clip that had all these random black boxes all over it, but only while playing on a specific platform. It has the correct codec and everything. All the settings are right, and I've tried multiple file formats and rerendering the video in case it was corrupted Couldn't figure out what was causing it for the life of me. In all my googling and forum crawling, it seems I very well may be the first person on the planet to actually have this issue!!! And I don't know nearly enough about Unity or video files or this platform's architecture to figure it out myself.

In a last ditch effort, I googled "black boxes on video." No mention of Unity, any software, any platforms, nothing. Found a Reddit thread about YouTube videos getting black boxes on them in Chrome. Users suggested the OP disables "Direct composition video overlays." Of course, these are not a thing in Unity, but it made me think about overlays and I decided for the hell of it to try disabling the post processing.

That fixed it.
