I was going to post this just with the title as a little nonsense post but I decided to look up if wug was something first. Turns out, this is a wug. I do think 2023 will be a big year for wug

the wug became famous in a linguistic experiment that demonstrates that children learn generalizable rules of language rather than mimic examples that they have heard in the past!

the experiment showed one wug labeled something like "this is a wug." and then showed two wugs and said something like "there is another one! there are two ____." and had children say out loud what the word would be (in this case, wug being a nonsense word that they had never encountered)

children knew to pronounce wugs like a z at the end instead of an s, even though they had never heard anyone pluralize wug before
