i got a stream deck for christmas (thank you @QueerFurries!) and have been working on getting it set up

the problem is: I Don't Know What To Do With It

i have already made my life marginally better by setting shortcuts for monitor settings (to make swapping between splatoon and standard PC usage easier) but i have like. 10 more buttons i can use lmao

i stream very rarely, so i don't really want to use a button for going live slash other stream settings, but i use OBS for funky stuff like streaming capture card to discord (and might work on getting something set up there) but other than that i don't really have any ideas!

so, this is me asking: what would/do you use a stream deck for?

in reply to @brookehorse's post:

If i had one i would probably set the rest of the buttons to dumb soundboard stuff lol. Im planning on recording some stuff though, so for practical use i might set things like muting/switching audio sources in obs. Which i guess is pretty close to what you're already using it for

what does a stream deck actually let you do? is it just like. extra buttons that you can map to specific actions or combinations of actions? can it display information? i can think of things that i would use a one-button shortcut for if they existed: screenshot, export the last 30s of video as a clip because i want to be able to share it, create windows on a desktop in a particular arrangement i like for (dnd, hollow knight rando, whatever) in a way i normally do manually. but one of those is basically making a complicated keybinding a single button, and one of them is like. window manager level control.

here's a screenshot of the interface

you can set hotkeys, open files and urls, and set up "multi actions" (basically macros)

the duplicate/extend monitors buttons are just opening the program in windows that handles monitors and setting the monitor setting. setting up a screenshot button would be very easy (see: hotkeys), but i'm not sure about the window arrangement.

maybe using the multi action option could do it? but even then it'd rely on being able to bring different windows into focus... hm. i'll try and fiddle around with it (but honestly with bingo stuff in particular, i still haven't really found a great solution for the hk window/teammate stream/bingo window aside from 3rd monitor which is not super feasible given my desk space unless i did some weird stacking/vertical stuff)

that's super fair. i just put it all on one large monitor, but it's slightly annoying, and i can see it being a bigger issue if you have other constraints. it's probably not worth finagling a third monitor into place just for hk rando.

........probably

set up VAC and soundboard software and blast airhorns in the discord call

tbh if i had one i'd see if i could do some nonsense with pluralkit and have push-button front switching in telegram/discord, but that's kinda high effort investment
